Dr. Shawn Jennings, Brainstem stroke victim at 46 years of age.
“The nurses turned me every two hours – a relief from my agony – but in a few minutes the pain would start in some other area of my body. I was unable to scream out or make any commotion to signal anyone, so I had to be content to wait until someone happened to come by. Then I would try to make my distress apparent by batting my eyelashes furiously.”
In 1999, Dr. Shawn Jennings suffered a brainstem stroke. For 11 months, Dr. Jennings was unable to move, speak or communicate except through blinking. He was locked in. With the help of the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation, Dr. Jennings is back home, able to move with the help of a wheelchair, and able to communicate once again with the world around him. |
